Málaga University is expected to approve later this year awarding an Honorary Doctorate to the actor-director who was born in the city 49 years ago, Málaga’s ‘Favourite Son’, Antonio Banderas.

The proposal was unanimously approved at a meeting of the Audiovisual Communication and Advertising Department on Tuesday and is expected, Diario Sur reports, to be ratified by a meeting of university teaching staff at the end of the year.

Exactly when the honorary degree will be awarded, of course, largely depends on the actor’s tight schedule.

It’s understood another honoris causa for the Málaga actor is currently going through the approval process at the University of Veracruz, in Mexico.
