Antonio portrays Marcos, a journalist in Madrid who goes to
the circus looking for a story. He is about to leave when
he attracted by a beautiful performer (Neri) who does stunts
with guns on horseback. A relationship develops. Marcos is
sent to Barcelona to cover a story, and while he is gone Ana
is brutally raped by three mechanics after they see her performance.
Ana takes bloody revenge then goes on the run while Marcos
tries to save her from self-destruction.
Director Carlos Saura
sensed that Antonio had learned much from his acting experience
in America and that he applied it in his European films -- a way
of moving with the tremendous assurity and security "that belongs
to the most powerful empire on earth."
Antonio agreed that acting in the
United States had "loosened" his acting.
Related Information
This is Antonio's second film with
Saura. They did Los Zancos together eight years
earlier.
