The Other Man 2009 Directed by: Richard Eyre Co-Stars: Liam Neeson, Laura Linney Studio: Rainmark Films Script: Richard
Eyre & Charles Wood (screenplay) Filming Location: London, England and Lake Como and Milan, Italy What would you do if a tragic event brought to light the fact that everything you believed about your life could be a lie? Struggling to deal with the death of his wife, Lisa (Linney), Peter (Neeson) finds himself forced to face that reality when he discovers a secret file on her computer marked “Love”. Soon voice mail messages and emails arrive for her from a stranger known only as Ralph. Little by little he gathers bits and pieces of the relationship the two shared and decides to track down the mysterious Ralph to uncover the truth. After finding Ralph in Milan he strikes up a ‘friendship’ with the apparently successful businessman in order to discover the truth of the relationship between the man and his deceased wife. Eventually he uncovers the truth that Ralph is far from what he appears to be and the plot begins to change from one of discovery and revenge to one of loss and forgiveness. The script for The Other Man is based on a short story by Bernhard Schlink and can be found in a collection of Schlink’s stories called “Flights of Love”. While the movie did not draw rave reviews from the critics due to the uneven plot twists and editing, Antonio’s portrayal of Ralph garnered high praise as the stand out performance in the film.
