Additional Captures

Director: Fernando Trueba

Other Actors: Melanie Griffith, Daryl Hannah, Joan Cusak, Danny Aiello, Eli Wallach

Billed as a 'screwball comedy' this movie did very well in Spain but went almost straight to video in North America. Tom Hanks was originally considered for the part(s) that Antonio eventually played -- twin brothers Art and Bart Dodge. Antonio admits that he had reservations about the movie at first, but agreed to work with his friend Fernando Trueba. Two Much tells the story of a charming swindler, Art Dodge, who owns an art gallery in Miami. While trying to get out of a jam he inadvertently becomes involved with Betty (Melanie Griffith) who falls in love with him. But, Art meets Betty's sister, Liz (Daryl Hannah) and falls in love with her. So, he invents a sensitive twin brother, Bart, to woo Liz.

Trueba was very familiar with Antonio's films and felt that "Antonio is most beautiful in physical gags. He has a fantastic way of expressing and making humor with his body."

During the first days of filming Antonio was not very loose in his role of a comedian. Antonio had had experience doing comedy, but from a realistic focus. Trueba requested a change of style to something more slapstick and got it. Always very self-critical, Antonio had to be reassured that he was on the right track.

Related Information

The big story behind this movie, of course, is that Antonio met his second wife, Melanie Griffith, on the set. Both of them had marriages in serious trouble at the time and Melanie admits that, for her, it was "love at first sight." They kept their attraction quiet, though, and many on the set didn't even realize that something was brewing. When filming was over Antonio and Melanie agreed that their feelings might be nothing more than infatuation and went their separate ways. They were soon back together, though -- permanently.
